Football fans will from today be offered a new window into the lives of their sporting heroes in an attempt to create the beautiful game’s answer to Spotify.

Top players including Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar will post exclusive content such as pictures and videos to Otro, an app aimed at monetising fans’ appetite to find out more about some of the world’s most successful sports stars.

Otro will offer subscribers a choice between signing up to receive basic updates for free, or a premium service that will offer exclusive live interviews, original documentaries and films for £3.99 a month.

The app aims to create a global digital fan club and its subscription model has been likened to that of Spotify, the music-streaming business.
