Manchester City have broken their transfer record after completing the signing of Rodri from Atletico Madrid by triggering the €70 million (£62.9 million) release clause in his contract.
Omar Berrada, City’s chief operating officer, and a number of club officials visited La Liga’s headquarters in Madrid yesterday to pay the fee, which released Rodri from his Atletico contract.
City yesterday brought in Angeliño, the 22-year-old left back. City inserted a €6 million (£5.3 million) buy-back clause when they sold him to PSV Eindhoven last summer and were impressed by the Spaniard’s performances during his maiden season with the Dutch club so they have decided to re-sign him. City will also complete the £3.1 million signing of Félix Correia, the 18-year-old forward, from Sporting Lisbon.
